Consultant Collaboration and Requests for Proposals
Create and promote an RFP for outdoor recreation projects.
When communities take on recreation projects, such as building trails, improving boat launches, adding trailheads, or designing new signage, they often need outside expertise to make sure the work is done well. Hiring a planning or design consultant can provide the technical knowledge, creativity, and experience needed to move a project from idea to reality.
Two common tools for hiring consultants are Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs).
- An RFP explains the project, outlines the work that needs to be done, and invites consultants to submit both their approach and cost estimate.
- An RFQ, on the other hand, is used when a community wants to first review a consultant’s experience and qualifications before asking for a detailed proposal.
Both processes help ensure that communities select the right team for the job in a fair and organized way.
